Nascida numa família cristã, antes de entrar no Mosteiro de Vitorchiano (perto de Roma – Itália) a irmã Irene Cánepa foi “rebelde”. Todavia encontrou testemunhos de vida que a conquistaram e ajudaram a dar o passo em direção à vida monástica.

Um percurso de vida preenchido… Recentemente, a madre superiora do mosteiro italiano fez um convite à comunidade onde solicitava a disponibilidade das monjas para se fundar um mosteiro em Portugal, concretamente na Diocese de Bragança-Miranda.

“Achei que não havia razões para não dizer não porque sempre verifiquei que o Senhor é fiel no seu chamamento”, disse a Irene Cánepa.

As dez monjas que estão no mosteiro trapista de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja formam uma comunidade, “uma autêntica família”, e cada uma tem a sua função. Esta monja está a traduzir textos e melodias italianas e adaptá-las à língua portuguesa.

“Nas leituras das vigílias não seguimos propriamente o breviário romano porque temos dois ciclos” confessou a consagrada.

A regra beneditina «Ora et Labora» é o pilar na vida destas monjas trapistas. Através dos escritos e do exemplo de vida, São Bento ajuda na “conversão”, mas é uma regra “exigente”.

Ainda estão na fase da descoberta da realidade portuguesa, mas a irmã Irene Cánepa considera que deixou a família, mas encontrou “uma família maior”.

Naquele local inóspito nasceu uma comunidade orante. Ali vivem dez monjas trapistas, todas elas italianas, que têm o ORA et LABORA de São Bento como regra da sua vida. O dia começa muito antes do Sol raiar… Tem o seu início na escuridão, mas a oração é uma luz que ilumina e desvela o caminho. Até parece que tem mais de 24 horas…

O dia monástico tem início com a oração das vigílias. Seguido de silêncio e meditação. A capela está quase despida de imagens para que não haja distrações… É a simplicidade.

Durante a semana, às oito da manhã têm a missa onde a liturgia é melodiosa e a sonoridade da cítara toca nos corações.

De gargalhada fácil e cheia de dinamismo, a irmã Lúcia Villarosa trabalha na hospedaria e na loja do mosteiro. Apesar dos poucos meses que está em Portugal, esta monja, tal como as restantes, já domina a língua de Camões. De forma repentina e enérgica diz: “Vivemos a vida monástica, mas ainda não temos o verdadeiro mosteiro”.

Como as monjas vivem na hospedaria porque as obras do mosteiro ainda não tiveram o seu início, a irmã Lúcia Villarosa revela que, atualmente, existem quatro quartos para os hóspedes e convida as pessoas a viverem a liturgia com as irmãs e ficarem ali “alguns dias”.

Em relação à loja, a monja trapista sublinha que ainda é uma “lojinha”, mas divulga bem os produtos que têm para vender que vão desde a doçaria aos terços.

Os produtos expostos são feitos pelas monjas trapistas do Mosteiro de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja. É o “lado do labora” da Regra de São Bento, mas sempre ligado à liturgia. “Não há divisão entre o ora e o labora da regra”, anuncia.

Antes de entrar no mosteiro de Vitorchiano, a irmã Lúcia Villarosa revela que nasceu “numa família que não era cristã” e ao contrair uma doença que a levou para a cama do hospital começou o processo de conversão. “Foi um momento muito forte porque pedi ao Senhor para me doar uma vocação”, revelou.

Em Vitorchiano, a casa mãe destas monjas, encontrou uma comunidade que a acolheu de forma “muito transparente” e a educou “para a fé”.

As monjas trapistas vieram todas de Itália. Disseram SIM ao chamamento e fundaram um novo mosteiro na Diocese de Bragança-Miranda… No futuro esperam novas vocações nascidas em terras lusitanas. Com percursos de vida singulares, estas monjas reviveram episódios e relataram na primeira pessoa o seu discernimento vocacional. Experiências enriquecedoras e contadas na primeira pessoa… Um oásis orante que influencia a comunidade mais próxima e também a Igreja em Portugal.

Na aridez dos terrenos daquele planalto mirandês nasceu o Mosteiro de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja… Uma autêntica família onde cada membro tem a sua função. Em todos os gestos, a alegria das monjas trapistas está estampada nos rostos… Uma vida preenchida com raízes na dimensão do silêncio.

Para além deste diálogo orante, as monjas trapistas também fabricam produtos artesanais. Um trabalho simples com ligação profunda à terra… Uma escola de serviço, de obediência à realidade, mas favorece também a criatividade e valoriza as forças vivas e os dons de cada irmã. Os seus doces são autênticas delícias de Deus…

“Para mim a beleza não é expor obras de arte”

Perdeu-se uma artista e ganhou-se uma pasteleira… A irmã Anunciada Levi sempre gostou de cozinhar, mesmo antes de entrar no mosteiro. Com um olhar radiante e luminoso disse que as iguarias que faz “não têm segredos”. As suas mãos laboriosas fazem umas amêndoas deliciosas que estão à venda na “lojinha” e na altura da Páscoa chegaram a muitos lares portugueses em vários pontos do país.

Num encontro com um pasteleiro, a monja trapista recebeu a receita dos pãezinhos que foi “adaptada e aperfeiçoada”. Outro produto que sai das mãos desta fada da cozinha no Mosteiro de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja em Palaçoulo, Diocese de Bragança-Miranda.

Todavia, a história desta irmã não esteve sempre ligada aos doces… Antes de entrar no mosteiro italiano, a irmã Anunciada fez o curso de Belas Artes. “Estudei pintura e trabalhei uns anos no estudo de gravuras e como artesã”, disse.

Entrou para Vitorchiano com 33 anos e continua a gostar “muito da beleza”, mas disse de forma repentina que o mosteiro não vai ter obras de arte com a assinatura dela. “Para mim a beleza não é expor obras de arte”.

Já tinha estado em Portugal duas vezes antes de vir fundar o mosteiro em Palaçoulo. Gostou muito de Alcobaça e de Fátima, mas quando chegou ao planalto mirandês ficou impressionada com “o céu” porque “é possível olhar a 360 graus”. A terra com o seu xisto e o seu lado áspero também impressiona esta monja trapista. “Eu gosto muito da matéria”.

Para além da área da doçaria, a irmã Anunciada Levi também faz parte do grupo das monjas que dialogam com os arquitetos e engenheiros sobre o nascimento do mosteiro.

Agora vivem na hospedaria… No final do verão começam as obras do Mosteiro de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja. O projeto contempla uma “igreja abacial” onde os hóspedes e as monjas trapistas podem rezar juntos. O local onde estão atualmente fica apenas para as pessoas que querem fazer uma experiência com as consagradas.

Depois de explicar alguns pormenores sobre a obra e onde ficam situados os espaços do dia-a-dia das monjas trapistas, a irmã Deborah Volonté conta que é a ecónoma, “tanto da construção como dos trabalhos produtivos”, mas acima de tudo “é monja”. Uma autêntica mestre-de-obras que tem um olhar luminoso e confessou que cada “sacrifício abre um horizonte maior”.

Cada idade tem o seu sonho… A irmã Deborah Volonté revela que quando era “pequenina” queria ser professora, a mesma profissão que tinha a sua mãe. A vida dá voltas inesperadas e entrou para a universidade para tirar o curso de Ciências e Tecnologias Alimentares. Como “o Senhor não deixou nenhuma palavra ao vento” entrou no Mosteiro de Vitorchiano…

O conhecimento adquirido na universidade foi importante e naquele mosteiro italiano trabalhou na produção das compotas. No futuro, o Mosteiro de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja também vai produzir este doce… Será que encontrámos uma nova mestre?

“O mundo é muito pequeno”

A sua simpatia é contagiante… Com a sua voz meiga que entra facilmente no coração, a superiora do Mosteiro Trapista de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja explica que o “mundo é muito pequeno” para os desafios contemporâneos. Depois de tirar o curso de Filosofia na universidade, a Irmã Giusy Maffini entrou na vida monástica. “A crise foi sobretudo nos anos da universidade”, confessou.

Passado esse período crítico e de “enamoramento com o mundo” deu o sim ao chamamento e, agora, como superiora da comunidade espera que as jovens portuguesas estejam disponíveis e escutem o apelo vindo do semeador de vocações. Para tornar mais visível este mosteiro, as monjas trapistas de Santa Maria Mãe da Igreja estão a elaborar um site na internet que mostre “o rosto” destas consagradas.

Quando a noite ainda está para durar, estas monjas começam a cumprir a regra de São Bento «Ora et Labora». “Acordamos às 03h20 para começar a nossa oração de vigílias às 04h00”, contou a irmã Giusy Maffini. Ao longo do dia encontram-se sete vezes na capela para rezarem em conjunto.

Há 33 anos que é monja trapista e vive com alegria porque o “Senhor conduz” o seu caminho.
