O padre chinês John Baptist Yang Xiaoting, de 46 anos, foi ordenado bispo há alguns dias com a aprovação da Santa Sé e do Governo de Pequim, noticiou a Rádio Vaticano.<\/p>\n
A ordenação realizou-se no distrito de Yulin, tendo contado com a presença de cerca de seis mil fiéis, entre os quais cem padres.<\/p>\n
O novo prelado foi nomeado bispo auxiliar de Yulin, província de Shaanxi.<\/p>\n
As relações diplomáticas entre o Governo chinês e a Santa Sé foram rompidas em 1951, dois anos após a revolução comunista.<\/p>\n
O país conta cerca de dez a doze milhões de católicos, divididos entre a Associação Católica Patriótica, oficialmente reconhecida por Pequim, e a denominada Igreja Católica Clandestina, fiel ao papa e à Igreja romana.<\/p>\n
Os bispos da Associação Católica Patriótica não são designados pela Santa Sé.<\/p>\n
