Felix Mendelssohn nasceu em Hamburgo, a 3 de Fevereiro de 1809, filho de Leah Salomon e Abraham Mendelssohn, banqueiro, e neto do rabi e fil\u00f3sofo Moses Mendelssohn. A influ\u00eancia judaica n\u00e3o foi suficiente para impedir que Felix, o irm\u00e3o e as duas irm\u00e3s fossem baptizados na Igreja Luterana, sacramento que tamb\u00e9m os pais vieram a receber em 1816. Desde crian\u00e7a que Mendelssohn mostrou ter um talento prodigioso, tocando piano e violino, pintando e demonstrando grande \u00e0-vontade em l\u00ednguas estrangeiras.
