A finalidade do evento \u00e9 reunir em um Congresso Internacional representantes da Igreja latino-americana, para fazer uma reflex\u00e3o hist\u00f3rica e pastoral sobre as novas formas de evangeliza\u00e7\u00e3o que o mundo contempor\u00e2neo exige.   A Confer\u00eancia de Medell\u00edn \u00e9 considerada um dos momentos mais relevantes da vida do catolicismo latino-americano.
