A apresentar o congresso aos jornalistas estar\u00e3o D. Elio Sgreccia, presidente da APV, bem como especialistas nas \u00e1reas da teologia moral e da bio\u00e9tica. Em cima da mesa estar\u00e3o as quest\u00f5es que se colocam \u00e0s equipas m\u00e9dicas perante os doentes incur\u00e1veis, no campo do \u201cencarni\u00e7amento terap\u00eautico e do abandono do paciente\u201d. \u201cExistem limites ao dever moral de conservar a vida?\u201d, questiona, em comunicado, a APV. As novas e crescentes oportunidades de interven\u00e7\u00e3o m\u00e9dica podem levar, segundo este organismo do Vaticano, \u201ca um agravamento do sofrimento\u201d dos doentes. A Academia Pontif\u00edcia para a Vida foi institu\u00edda por Jo\u00e3o Paulo II em 11 de Fevereiro de 1994, com o Motu Proprio \u201cVitae Mysterium\u201d.
