O ainda presidente de Timor-Leste, Xanana Gusm\u00e3o, convidou o papa Bento XVI a visitar o pa\u00eds com o intuito de “ajudar a restabelecer a paz nos cora\u00e7\u00f5es” dos timorenses, noticiou a R\u00e1dio Vaticano. Segundo a emissora pontif\u00edcia, o convite ter\u00e1 sido endere\u00e7ado por ocasi\u00e3o da recente nomea\u00e7\u00e3o do primeiro embaixador timorense junto da Santa S\u00e9, Justino Maria Apar\u00edcio Guterres. Xanana Gusm\u00e3o ressaltou a import\u00e2ncia de refor\u00e7ar as rela\u00e7\u00f5es com o Vaticano e recordou a visita de Jo\u00e3o Paulo II ao pa\u00eds, em 1989, quando Timor ainda se encontrava sob o dom\u00ednio da Indon\u00e9sia.
