Bento XVI nomeou hoje, 21 de Mar\u00e7o, o Bispo Odilo Pedro Scherer como novo Arcebispo metropolitano da arquidiocese de S\u00e3o Paulo, no Brasil. D. Odilo Scherer \u00e9 o actual secret\u00e1rio-geral da Confer\u00eancia Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil (CNBB) e tinha sido nomeado pelo Papa como secret\u00e1rio-geral adjunto da V COnfer\u00eancia Geral do Episcopado Latino-Americano. O novo arcebispo, de 57 anos, era tamb\u00e9m o principal colaborador do seu predecessor, o Cardeal D. Claudio Humes, que o Papa chamou a Roma para dirigir a Congrega\u00e7\u00e3o do Clero. D. Odilio Scherer era desde 2001 bispo auxiliar de S\u00e3o Paulo, depois de ter estado no Vaticano a trabalhar na Congrega\u00e7\u00e3o para os Bispos, desde 1994. Com esta escolha, ser\u00e1 o pr\u00f3prio D.
