Bento XVI prestou hoje uma sentida homenagem ao Cardeal Johannes Willebrands, falecido esta manh\u00e3 na Holanda, considerando que o presidente em\u00e9rito do Conselho Pontif\u00edcio para a Promo\u00e7\u00e3o da Unidade dos Crist\u00e3os (CPPUC) foi \u201cum pastor incans\u00e1vel ao servi\u00e7o do povo de Deus e da unidade da Igreja\u201d. Ap\u00f3s ter tido conhecimento da not\u00edcia da morte do Cardeal mais velho da Igreja Cat\u00f3lica, o Papa enviou uma mensagem ao actual presidente do CPPUC, Cardeal Walter Kasper, manifestando o seu pesar e dando gra\u00e7as \u201cpelo trabalho desenvolvido\u201d por D. Johannes Willebrands \u201cnas rela\u00e7\u00f5es ecum\u00e9nicas, das quais foi um ardente promotor desde o in\u00edcio do seu sacerd\u00f3cio\u201d e, em especial, por alturas do Conc\u00edlio. \u201cEle contribuiu para desenvolver e intensificar o di\u00e1logo entre todas as Igrejas e comunidades eclesiais\u201d, acrescenta o telegrama. Bento XVI escreveu ainda ao Arcebispo de Utrecht, diocese onde faleceu o Cardeal Willebrands, mostrando-se agradecido pela vida \u201cdeste pastor incans\u00e1vel ao servi\u00e7o do povo de Deus e da unidade da Igreja, que foi chamado pelo meu predecessor Paulo VI para dar um novo dinamismo ao di\u00e1logo ecum\u00e9nico\u201d.
