O Primeiro-ministro italiano garantiu, ontem \u00e0 tarde, que Rahman j\u00e1 est\u00e1 em Roma. Diversos apelos internacionais, entre eles o do Papa Bento XVI, levaram as autoridades judiciais a rever a inten\u00e7\u00e3o de aplicar a “sharia”. Abdul Rahman, de 41 anos, foi libertado na segunda-feira da pris\u00e3o ap\u00f3s o tribunal o ter declarado como “mentalmente incapacitado para o julgamento”. Bento XVI enviara na semana passada uma mensagem ao Presidente do Afeganist\u00e3o, Hamid Karzai, intercedendo em favor de Rahman e apelando ao respeito dos direitos humanos, consagrados na Constitui\u00e7\u00e3o afeg\u00e3. Rahman ter-se-\u00e1 convertido ao cristianismo h\u00e1 16 anos quando trabalhava para uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o-governamental no Paquist\u00e3o.
