A elei\u00e7\u00e3o do Cardeal Joseph Ratzinger como novo Papa, em Abril deste ano, favoreceu o aumento de fi\u00e9is da Igreja Cat\u00f3lica na Alemanha. O facto foi reconhecido pelo presidente da Confer\u00eancia Episcopal alem\u00e3, o Cardeal Karl Lehmann, em entrevista \u00e0 R\u00e1dio da Bav\u00e1ria (BR). \u201c2005 foi, sem d\u00favida, um ano muito positivo para a Igreja\u201d, referiu o Cardeal Lehmann, que sublinha a elei\u00e7\u00e3o de Bento XVI, a realiza\u00e7\u00e3o em Col\u00f3nia das Jornadas Mundiais da Juventude e a inaugura\u00e7\u00e3o da Frauenkirche (protestante) em Dresden \u2013 igreja que tinha sido destru\u00edda durante a II Guerra Mundial. Sobre o n\u00famero de cat\u00f3licos no pa\u00eds, o presidente da Confer\u00eancia Episcopal alem\u00e3 constata que \u201cforam registadas, claramente, menos sa\u00eddas da Igreja, em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao passado, e mais entradas\u201d. Nesse sentido, admite que a elei\u00e7\u00e3o de Joseph Ratzinger foi \u201cum momento afortunado\u201d para a Igreja na Alemanha.
