Do beato a\u00e7oriano, Jo\u00e3o Baptista Machado Uma sess\u00e3o solene com explica\u00e7\u00f5es sobre o processo de canoniza\u00e7\u00e3o do beato terceirense Jo\u00e3o Baptista Machado decorreu, ontem, dia 05 de Maio, na Igreja do Col\u00e9gio dos Jesu\u00edtas, em Angra do Hero\u00edsmo. O orador foi o Pe. Jo\u00e3o Cani\u00e7o, vice-postulador da causa. A iniciativa esteve a cargo da Comiss\u00e3o Diocesana para a Causa da Beatifica\u00e7\u00e3o. A solenidade do Beato Jo\u00e3o Baptista Machado \u00e9 celebrada este ano na segunda-feira, dia 23 de Maio, pelas 18 horas na S\u00e9. A eucaristia \u00e9 presidida pelo Bispo de Angra, D. Ant\u00f3nio Sousa Braga. Dados Biogr\u00e1ficos<\/b> Jo\u00e3o Baptista Machado nasceu em Angra do Hero\u00edsmo em 1582, filho de Crist\u00f3v\u00e3o Vieira e de Maria Cota da Malha, e foi assassinado no Jap\u00e3o a 27 de Maio de 1617. Pertenceu \u00e0 Companhia de Jesus, ao servi\u00e7o da qual partiu, como mission\u00e1rio, para o Oriente. Jo\u00e3o Baptista recusou sair do Jap\u00e3o ap\u00f3s uma ordem imperial que determinava o abandono do territ\u00f3rio por parte dos mission\u00e1rios ocidentais. A teimosia custou-lhe a vida – cortaram-lhe a cabe\u00e7a -, no que foi acompanhado por outros cerca de 100 m\u00e1rtires de v\u00e1rias congrega\u00e7\u00f5es. A beatifica\u00e7\u00e3o de todos os m\u00e1rtires do Jap\u00e3o ocorreu em 1867.
